December may be the busiest month for nearly ever person, but it is definitely the most fun! With parties to attend, shopping to do, and decorations to put up, sometimes it is good to get away with the family and simply enjoy each other. Good thing that activities abound that are suitable for a lovely date-night out, to fun with the kids, to even a special treat with man’s best friend.
I took on the “tough” task of wading through endless activities for the month of December to highlight what I suggest are the Top Ten Picks for the Colorado Springs area. Enjoy one, or enjoy them all! I’d love to hear from you if your family gives any of these events a go. Let me know what you think.
Here is my list for 2016, by date. Keep in mind that several events listed are ongoing throughout the holidays:
#1 SKATE IN THE PARK, Downtown Colorado Springs, November 18 – January 16, 2017
Some of the best shopping around is in Downtown Colorado Springs. Plan a day out with your family to shop, eat at one of the many local restaurants, grab hot coco at the Storybook Coffee Co. and ice skate among the Christmas lights. A perfect way to make lasting memories with those you love. You’ll find the ice-skating rink in Acacia Park off of Tejon Street and Platte Ave. Special activities available throughout December. Details here.
Have you seen a marionette show? Perhaps you have ideas of silly puppets hanging from strings, or your only experience is from seeing them on a movie like Sound of Music. However, the Simpich family takes the look and talent of a marionette show to a whole new level. The puppets are amazing in and of themselves, but then you add the performance of the very skilled David Simpich and you enter into a world that dazzles young and old. The Puppet Maker “steps inside the workshop of a village woodcarver as he painstakingly prepares a marionette Nativity scene for a local Christmas music festival. On this eventful Christmas Eve night before the pageant, as he applies the finishing touches to his figures, a Christmas story unfolds that is both timeless and unexpected.” Performances such as these are rarely available anywhere else. It is a must for your holiday schedule! *Recommended for ages 6+. Location, times, and tickets here.
